Autumn 2
This half term has been filled with exciting opportunities for the children to learn, create, and explore. We began by discussing Bonfire Night safety and channelling the excitement of fireworks into large and small-scale artwork. πβ¨ To mark Remembrance Day, we reflected on its importance and created poppies to show our respect. β€οΈπΊ
We learnt about personal health and hygiene, reading Sugarbugs to understand the importance of brushing our teeth and staying healthy. We now brush our teeth in school everyday so we can be practise and become experts at it!
We were excited to welcome Jami Art to our school to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. ππͺ The children learnt about its significance and discovered the many beautiful ways it is celebrated around the world. We created Rangoli patterns and acted out the story of Rama and Sita.
Our focus on cultural celebrations continued with Kipper’s Birthday, where we explored birthday traditions from different cultures. ππ The children enjoyed making cards, paper chains, and wrapping presents, and they even planned their own class party for Riley our rights respecting bear.
Using Little Red Riding Hood, we explored familiar places such as our homes and local surroundings, creating maps and noticing key landmarks along our routes to school. π‘πΊοΈ
We also read Someone Swallowed Stanley, which inspired important conversations about recycling and how we can care for our planet. πβ»οΈ We talked about how we can save animals by putting our rubbish in the bin as we are aware that everyone has the right to a clean environment.
We created art inspired by Kandinsky’s famous circles, bringing creativity into every corner of their learning. We painted rocks and made our own big Kandinsky picture. π¨ποΈ
To end the term, we learnt about the story of Christmas and the traditions that surround it. πβ¨ The children were excited to share the joy of the season with their families during a special Christmas Signalong performance, which was a wonderful way to celebrate together. πΆπ
