Happy 2025!
As we continue our learning journey together we have lots of new and interesting topics to explore and investigate!
Please find information below regarding expectations for different subjects and homework.
PE
PE will be every Thursday. Your child should come to school dressed in PE kit which consists of:
- Blue or white t-shirt
- Navy blue or black jogging bottoms
- Blue sweatshirt (school jumper)
- trainers (any colour)
Children will take part in outdoor PE lessons as well as indoor so please ensure they are dressed appropriately.
Homework
Children will be given a homework book bag. Inside their book bag will be a reading book, a reading record, a dream read, a dream read record and a homework book.
Please listen to your child read at least 3 times a week and record this in their reading record.
The dream read book is a book for you to read to your child and enjoy together.
Children will be given a piece of maths homework and spellings in their homework book.
Please return book bags and homework every Thursday and then these will be changed and returned to your child on the Friday.
Science
This half term children will learn all about Plants. Children will learn the names of different types of plants. They will be able to name the different parts of a plant and know the important jobs that they do. The children will also investigate what plants needs to grow and stay healthy. As part of this they will grow their own plant from a seed and watch it grow!
Geography
We will be exploring the Capital Cities of the UK, focusing on London and Edinburgh. Children will learn to recognise the different landmarks of each city. They will use simple maps and the four compass points to navigate around the city from landmark to landmark.
History
In the second half term we will be studying The Great Fire of London. Investigating where and how it started, how we know so much about it (Samuel Pepys' diary) and the impact it had on the future planning of the city of London as it was rebuild. We will study it through a story, drama and anaylsing a primary source.
RE
The children will learn about Christianity and Why Jesus is important to the Christian faith. The children will learn about the life of Jesus; how he is portrayed as a healer, miracle worker and teacher. They will hear some of the stories Jesus told and how he used these to teach people about love, care, forgiveness and helping others. After half term the children will learn the story of Easter and how Christians celebrate their most importatnt festival.
PSHE
BE YOURSELF is the topic for the first half term. The children will learn to identify their own special traits and qualities, talk and think about what makes them happy and when they feel sad. They will understand the importance of talking about their feelings.
AIMING HIGH is the topic for the second half term. The children will be able to identify a positive learning attitude. They will discuss what jobs they want to do in the future and think about some of the special skills or interests that are needed to fulfill these roles. They will talk about thier hopes for the future.
ART
The children will do a lot of work with clay in the first half of spring term, making pinch pots and designing and creating clay tiles. In the second half of Spring term children will create a 3D collage piece based on the history topic The Great Fire of London.
